Description :-

 Motha is found in throughout the country, common in waste grounds, gardens and roadsides, upto an elevation of 1800 m. Drug consists of rhizome and stolon having a number of wiry roots, stolon 10-20 cm long having a number of rhizomes, crowded together on the stolons, rhizomes bluntly conical and vary in size and thickness, crowned with the remains of stem and leaves forming a scaly covering, dark brown or black externally, creamish-yellow internally; odour, pleasant.

Phytoconstituents :- 

Volatile Oil. It contains sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, epoxides, ketones,     monoterpenes and aliphatic alcohols. Sesquiterpenes include selinene, isocurcumenol, nootkatone, aristolone, isorotundene, cypera- 2, 4(15)-diene, and norrotundene, as well as the sesquiterpene alkaloids rotundines A-C. It is also contains Camphene, Copaene, Cyperene, Cyperenone, Cyperol, Cyperolone Cyperotundone Dcopadiene, D-epoxyguaiene, D-fructose, D-glucose, Flavonoids, Gamma-cymene, Isocyperol, Isokobusone, Kobusone,
